I Lost My Freedom Of Speech A While Ago
I always say online I lost my freedom of speech. Why? Because I am becoming more of a public person everyday. Everything I say is documented and watched down to where I put an exclamation point. If I write something in caps, I'm angry. If I don't respond fast enough, I've went Hollywood. Its crazy. I try to tell people enjoy their freedom. All of us are not ready to really have what we say have an impact on more than our lives.
On top of that, do you know how many people provoke you to act out of character? It happens to me everyday. And with the whole innovation of being online anywhere and everywhere, the whisper is non existant. Its called a subliminal tweet now. Whispers are still used, but its more ovbious if its about you or not now. And what can you do about it? Nothing. Why? Because it may ruin you. You have to have a thick skin once you get into the public life.
I never thought I would lose my freedom of speech privileges. Its not even on the level of censorship yet, but I have to censor myself. Kwan Lee's Big Adventure I tell you.....
Until next time....

Are We Becoming A Society On Lockdown?
So I'm on this new select bus in Manhattan and 3 guards come on the bus investigating people for tickets. It felt like something out of The Running Man or one of those futuristic police-state movies. I honestly thought something was wrong on the bus! (Guards, Manhattan, on a bus, need I say more?)
What if the city was like this? With curfews and ID checks all the time? People getting interrogated because they look suspicious? I can't go the whole color route because that is just plain ignorance at this point. Its about the people and not a group of people. We can't look at middle eastern people and cry terrorists. We can't look at black people and cry theives. We can't look at white people and cry racist. It isn't about that. Those descriptions can describe anyone of any color. Imagine New York with a curfew. That would be crazy! Already the police do random searches and have checkpoints in neighborhoods. Imagine if everyone had to be checked? That could be next.
What I am trying to say is: what would happen if our city became like one of those cities in the movies? What would it be like. I don't want to find out now and do not want to feel the effects later

How & What & Why & When (Poem)
I decided to write this asking myself a few questions:
How does my music get heard?
How do people feel when they hear my music?
How is it the guy who they said couldn't rap is still here and they are gone?
How do I do it?
How much do I have to do to get accepted by the closest ones around me?
How many people does it take to say I have skills for others to realize they are not the end all be all?
How many times do I have to put in work without bragging or spazzing to be noticed?
How can I succeed with the tools I have?
How can I go farther than I imagine?
What does it take to get heard by the right people?
What is the formula?
What is the problem with truly expressing how you feel through music?
What has to be done for reality to be accepted?
What can I do to be in the right places?
What do you have to do to get support in this city?
Why do people who don't know you support you more than people who do?
Why do people support you when you reach the networks and not when you are coming up?
Why is it that I intimidate people?
Why are they trying to ostracize me?
Why did the devil call me (or whoever the devil really was)?
Why do I make music?
Why won't people say they like something that's avant-garde?
Why do people jump on bandwagons?
Why don't they want me to win?
Why do people shoot down great ideas?
Why do people take credit for things they didn't do?
Why sabotage another man's plans to succeed?
Why hate on the next man?
When will they realize the work I put in?
When will my hard work PAY off?
When will I be supported by those around me?
When can I afford to have children?
When will my inner circle be the ones who everybody puts on a pedestal?
When can I finish the last few things left on my bucket list?
When will they put our talent on display?
When will they realize I haven't even used my full potential yet?
When will my city put my city on?
When will the big brothers and sisters let our generation shine as a whole?
When can I be on the sites I look at everyday on a frequent basis or even at all?
When will the "politics" go away?
When can I enjoy life carefree?
When will they admit that I am great at what I do best?
And this all came from this question: Why won't they let me be great?

Long Time No See
Hey guys,
I've been really busy trying to promote the music video and everything I do. Juggling as usual. Finding out a lot more about this music scene everyday. I'm working on TPVKL2 realizing that its going to sound way different than the 1st one. If you heard the EP, you can definitely hear that.
I'm going to be making more avant garde music. Its time to reach other places. In NY there's 20 rappers in a 2 block radius, twice as many producers, but less fans of that artist. New York is too clogged with "music". Everyone raps, makes beats, or does something with music. Its like having a last name now a days. Wish I could say every one of them had what it takes, but clearly they don't. Hey, some people think that about me...
I have to start traveling and getting my music heard by people outside of my region. They are more appreciative. You give someone a cd in the street here, and your response is oh my man raps, my boy makes beats, nah I'm good my g, or the kicker: you aint on 106 & Park or the radio. If they only knew what it really took to get there. Talent means close to nothing anymore. Its about who you know and how much your money could talk.
I don't envy those people who can do it and have the resources to get to that next step. At all. More power to them. I wish I had a resource like that. One day I say, one day...
I don't even feel like writing anymore because I will have a chapter to a book. I could go on and on, but I won't. Until next time... Peace!

I Dropped The EP
This EP is a preview of The People Vs. Kwan Lee 2. Five of the songs will be on the sequel. I thank everyone who took the time out to download and support it. It is currently doing better than I expected already! I am very thankful for that.
More importantly, there are two upcoming releases that are great works of art. Kid Loko's debut project, I Am Not A Rapper, and Dru The Monster's 12:00 which is his 2nd solo mixtape. I am proud to have my hand in these projects and I know they will do well...
With saying all of that, here is the link to download the I Warned You EP: http://bit.ly/a0Fuqm
I hope you enjoy it, and have more good music to add to your collection...

Day 1: TPVKL In The Streets and RIP Kwan Lee
If you do read the blog, you know today I got copies of The People Vs. Kwan Lee pressed. I sold a copy. One more copy than I thought I would have sold. A lot of people I knew personally had their hands out for a free copy, but didn't even take the time to download it (mind you it is amply available online, even for the most computer illeterate person.)
I'm not mad though, its progress.
I know the hood story. No one supports until it is relevant to. When its cool to know me. When you can say Kwan Lee is my homie to get laid. When you can get in a show for free. When you can be more popular than you are for taking a picture with me. Funny part is, that's capable now. But people are so superficial. They wait for the media to love you to even give an effort to like you.
I know when I do make it to the public standards, I'm going to have a lot of people around me now who are currently being blind to rising success. I produced half of Mala Reignz EP (by the way she is in The Source Unsigned Hype this month for all you superficial people, but she's been dope in my eyes. ITS ABOUT TIME!) and in most peoples opinion I produced all the bangers with the exception of OMG which is currently getting radio play. I also produced tracks on Elus official album The Process. I produced virtually every track I have ever rapped on, with the exception of industry beats and collabs I do as a feature. People like the music. But it means nothing because I'm not co-signed by any DJ or roll with a certain crew? You can't be serious!
This is why I have made the decision to release my final "album" November 11, 2011. The People Vs. Kwan Lee 3: RIP Kwan Lee. I'm done with the foolishness. New York is never going to change no matter what happens. Most are out for self even the ones closest to you at times. I've seen it happen. A lot of people eventually want to be the center of attention at some point, and have everything be all about them. Not my style. I don't need to be put under a microscope for everything I do. I don't want all eyes on me. I'm a paranoid person as is when one pair of eyes are on me.
I never was one to be the star. I'm not greedy about anything in light. Have no problem with sharing the spotlight. Just let me eat and don't play cutthroat and cut me out is all I ever will ask. And of course, give credit where its due.
I've said enough. Can't break Law 4. Peace!

So People Are Listening
Honestly, it is not easy pushing your music sometimes. I'm in a superficial city. Its about who's backing you or who gives the a-ok. Its about the "official" websites and internet radio stations giving you a co-sign. You would think that my home New York would show love the most, but in reality I have gotten more love out of state than here. California loves it like I am from there. I'm even getting love overseas. It boggles me when just 2 years ago I got told stick to producing, and now the people who told me that are out the loop. Part of me feels like saying I told you, but I'm gonna keep my cool....
If anything, when I get my star power up (ill explain that another day) I will have a voice to say who I do this for. Music is my stress relief. I make music for the people who go through real things. I can't talk about killing people and being some big time dude when in actuality I take the train, I'm always broke and wait on my homie with the car to go places. That's not me. One day I will officially be the voice for people who weren't "the man" or the popular guy. For the kids who got picked on, weren't part of the in crowd and they called losers. That will be me. I got y'all....

Why I'm Not Performing...
No one is bold enough to actually say to me they don't like my music. However, I don't get invites to do interviews on online radio stations, or perform in venues. I was banned from one promoter's events, but that's another story that's not worth even telling or addressing.
The actions shown by some of these people though imply that they don't like my music, and I just let it be. From the radio shows down to the showcases. I'm not getting paid or getting a deal at these venues, so its not really a big big deal to me. The internet radio is mostly political here. They wait on co-signs. It is frustrating at times, but I get over it quickly. Very quickly.
When I have a good situation or can do something for them, that's when I get a phone call or a text or a bbm message. Especially with the camera! That's the way it goes I guess. I think about it. When I do get in a position where I'm on websites and the brand is pushed, then I will get the hey what's good's or the you wanna rock messages...
I did this radio interview a few weeks ago where my music got cut off because it was time to go (mind you there were 10 minutes left). It pissed me off but I could tell by the vibe once I get to a certain "spot" ill get asked to do that radio interview again. And I will deny it. I'm not with the kissy kissy games.
I believe in earning mines. Who you know helps, but I will never abuse that "power". I want to earn that spot on a show or a website. It feels better for me when I gain exposure that way. You know?
Until next time, peace!

The Retirement Run Is Coming
I've been doing some thinking. And some watching. Asking myself is it worth it? I love making music. I love being around music. I personally think I make great music. However, with the actions and remarks by my peers, I feel that is opposed. I feel like the 12th man on the basketball team again. The high-five man you see when they give timeouts on tv. Only difference is I'm not that enthusiastic.
I'm a smart person. I master timing. And I think its time I explored other options as far as music. Hip-Hop is cool, it is great, and I love it with a passion. But with all the things that go on, I really evaluate is it worth it. The actions and gestures illustrated to me reflect these exact words: This is our game, fall back. From even my peers closest to me. Those exact words.
I've been contemplating how I'm going to bow out for a while now. While I can't explain how I vividly feel, some will understand. I have it mapped out exactly how I'm going to do it. No, I'm not quitting anything and everything, but more so directing attention to other things that are proven success. My peers have hinted that maybe rap isn't for me. Numerous amounts of times. Maybe they were right, but I'm confident they are wrong. And confidence superceds other people's opinion.
This retirement run is going to be one similar to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's. Ill most likely drop the last joint and just say thank you for having me. It is what it is. I already have everything planned out, and will carry it out how I want it to be carried out. Nothing can and will change my mind.
Don't worry, ill still be around. Kwan Lee TV won't stop. I love the game too much to just leave it. Its like basketball. The old players gotta have some involvement....

Tech Time
For most of you that actually know me, you know that I am constantly in the know with gadgets and technology. I love computers and gadgets that make it easier to do daily tasks I do. So here is what I have seen in the past few days that I need to put you guys on to:
1. iPhone 4G:
Now, I am an avid BlackBerry user, but for all the touch-screen fanatics, this is looking like the phone to get. Its trying to compete with the blackberry with details of multitasking and switching apps (similar to when you hold the menu button on the bb), as well as having better organization. You can put your apps into one folder instead of just dragging and dropping between pages on the iPhone. They basically made it a phone not just for fashion or showing off anymore. It can compete with the blackberry phones and the android powered os phones.
Confirmed features:
* Multitasking.
* Spell check (like on the iPad).
* Bluetooth keyboard support (again, on the iPad).
* User-defined wallpaper (a jailbreak favorite).
* Tap to focus when recording video, just like with photos, and a 5x digital zoom for the camera.
* Playlist creation and nested playlists.
* App folders for sorting apps! You can even put an app folder in the dock.
* Enhanced Mail! You can have a merged inbox view, switch between inboxes quickly, and sync to more than one Exchange account. There’s also threaded messaging (at last!) and in-app attachment viewing.
* iBooks, just like on iPad, only smaller. You can wirelessly sync books between platforms, a la Kindle.
* Enterprise features, including remote device management and wireless app distribution.
* Game Center. It’s like Xbox Live, but for iPhone games. Includes achievements, leaderboards, and match making. It will be available as a “developer preview,” and out for regular users later this year.
Pictures:
2. The Sidekick's Upgrade
Now as you all know, the T-Mobile sidekick is dead. T-Mobile has stopped pushing the phones. Ever since Microsoft brought the company, it has gone downhill. However, the real reason Microsoft brought it was because of the mobile backup. Me being a sidekick user for years loved the fact when I upgraded, all I had to do was login to the new sidekick and everything came back. Thats why Microsoft paid $500 million dollars for the company.
The sidekick upgrade is the Microsoft Kin. It sucks. They tried to keep the essence of the sidekick, but it isn't cutting it. People like the sidekick for the body it had. And the fact it didnt look like every other phone. This phone looks like the MotoBlur. For the teenagers maybe, but for adults and business people no. I can see high school kids with Verizon (Microsoft is only releasing this on Verizon) getting an upgrade from those LG flip phones, but no one is going to go crazy over the phone. It has Windows Mobile 7, Zune syncing, and Microsoft is keeping VERY QUIET on actual specs.
There are two versions of the phone. One looks like a Palm Pre, and the other looks like a MotoBlur clone. The Palm Pre look alike has 4gb of storage, while the MotoBlur clone has 8gb of storage. Still not interested unfortunately. Im good with my BlackBerry 9700. As you know with Microsoft, full specs will not be released until right about a month before the phone has a release date.
Pictures:
3. PS3 In 3D?
With the new 3D TV craze, it seems Sony is going full speed ahead, already planning to release 3D video games. While this is nothing new to video-game heads (Sega Master System had a few 3D titles), to all the young kids who never had the privilege of blowing on cartridges this is fairly new. Unfortunately, the United States will not be having first dibs on this one (PS3 UK will be getting it first)
Here is word from my favorite PS3 website (http://ps3.qj.net):
The first wave of 3D titles for the PS3 will launch in June, Sony UK has announced. They're not totally new, but you do get them for free if you buy their HX803 3D TV (and if you happen to live in Europe).
The HX803 will come with a download voucher for four 3D-capable games: Wipeout HD, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, PAIN, and Super Stardust HD. Before you can enjoy these games in 3D, though, you'll have to wait for a PS3 firmware update that's supposed to come out in June as well.
3D glasses are also a separate purchase as they apparently don't come with the HX803. The KDL-LX903 comes bundled with a pair, but its launch date is a bit later.
So in other words, you need to spend more money to get this. Your regular CRT TV will not be playing 3D games.
4. This is how you know your device you want to sell is official: if they make a knockoff right after it comes out.
As you know, if something is hot in the US, there is usually a knockoff coming real soon. (MP4 players that look like iPods, fake PSP's with the fake tetris game, etc.)
Already they have a bootleg iPad.
This iPad runs the Android OS (same as the g1, MotoBlur and Droid phones), and is supposedly the price of a new g1 with contract.
Here is the news from Engadget's website:
Supposedly, the tablet will sell for as little as 900 Chinese yuan (or about $130), which will get you a 7-inch touchscreen, a 600MHz Rockchip RK2808 processor (which could possibly be upgraded to a Cortex-A8 before launch), Android 1.5 for an OS, an SD card slot for storage, built-in WiFi, and a promised five hours of battery life. What's more, while it is slightly thicker than an iPad, it apparently weighs just 0.7 pounds, or about half as much as the iPad, and it boasts a few advantages of its own, in a front-facing camera and a USB port.
Bootleg Blackberry:
Yes. There is a bootleg BlackBerry. Its called the BlueBerry.
The phone isn't actually bad. It has mobile tv, wi-fi, and dual sim support. I would actually look to get this for someone who isnt too tech friendly, but wants a nice looking phone that does basic things, and does not have that extra data plan price attached to it. And it has the trackpad that everyone loves. I would actually co-sign this phone. It is great for kids and your parents.
That is all for this post. I will be doing this more often....

So I Was Thinking...
So I was thinking, some people ask: why don't we see Kwan Lee perform much? Honestly I can't answer the question the way I really want to, but it is cool that people are actually diggin my music and would ask that question.
Truth is, the question has been asked and implied. Why didn't you perform here, or perform there? I wish I could answer it correctly. Really wish I could. But I am realizing that I am a brand now whether I like it or not, so I have to express myself in a less anger driven manner.
I am upset though, however. I put in a lot of work, and its like ok kwan, hold the rap. And I'm better than a lot of my peers. I can comfortably say that. I produced my entire "mixtape" by myself. I shoot all my videos. I do practically everything with no management or team that pushes me. But they still say kwan, hold the rap. It definitely angers the hell out of me. I can't even lie about it.
I bet you though, if a great situation came my way, a whole lot of those same people, who I know, didn't necessarily like the fact I rap, would be rolling out red carpets for me. I've seen it happen already. Right in my face. To some of my peers.
At this point, I start to care less and less about nyc as far as love and support. Even from people close to me. The out of town love is crazy. Well to me at least. I'm not some big mega star, but for people in other states to hear my music and give me props is cool. There's too much stupidity and politics in nyc. Too much foolishness, selfishness, and self-centeredness. And I'm leaving it at that.
In the words of Kanye: Why won't they let me be great?
Peace.

Why I Need A Manager....
Ok, so even though I do everything for my career practically myself, I need a manager. Why? Because having a manager makes me look more professional and is a connection to actually get further than I am now. I played around with the idea, but I'm looking around me now and I need one. All my peers who suceed have management. Even the ones who's music is not as dope as mine. Although I am the man with no machine, a manager makes the puzzle more complete.
If I had a manager, I'd still be hands-on with everything, but I'd be able to get a lot more done as far as the artist side. A LOT MORE. I'd be right there with some of my peers. It looks better when a manager sends music and takes care of booking and stuff instead of the artist. I know. I have a radio show as well lol.
But in all seriousness, I need a manager. Its not even a want anymore. And I want a manager who's looking out for my best interest. So I've came up with five reasons why I need a manager.
1. I need to get radio interviews. The real ones.
2. I need to be recognized more for the work I've put in.
3. I need to rock more shows. I've been off the open mic circuit for a while, but with everything else I do, me performing is a rarity.... (Wonder why.....)
4. I need a barganing tool when it comes to some things. The words talk to my manager can go a long way.
5. It can open more doors than I can open by my self.
Now: 5 reasons I would be a great person to manage.
1. I do everything myself.
2. I take initiative.
3. I don't have an image to uphold because I am myself.
4. You won't have to invest money into me because I invest my time and money into myself more than anything.
5. I make great music (rapping or producing)
Honestly though, management is that next step for me, but before I take that next step I have to make sure it is the right direction. I can't have a manager that has an album coming out or 30 people they manage other than me. I need results. And am willing to put my work in to get to them. We will see what the future brings.

I'm Goint To Be Out Of Commision For A While
So yesterday I got my surgery done on my shoulder. I don't know how long I'm gonna be out of commison for. They said only for a week or two. But all the best things to catch on camera are in a week or two! My health comes first though. I was anticipating this would be happening so expect more videos from me... I saved them up for a rainy day like this....

Guess what I Figured Out To Do...
So I realize with most of what I do and promote, most of the people I advertise to have phones. Most of them have Blackberries. So I had to find a way to push my mixtape to them. And I did...
Instructions:
1. Download Opera Mini for the Blackberry at: http://m.opera.com
2. Download BB File Scout Lite (winzip for Blackberries) at: http://www.emacberry.com/ota/BBFileScout.jad
3. Http://bit.ly/c6cvlD Download The People Vs. Kwan Lee directly to your phone with the Opera Mini browser (the regular Blackberry browser will not work).
4. Use BB File Scout Lite to go to where you saved the file at and press menu. Then extract the zip file.
You now have TPVKL on your Blackberry to play! Enjoy!

Multitasking
What's good yall? I know I don't update the blog almost at all. Why? Because I'm busy doing other things! I got the NAN TV about to pop off (I'm editor, associate producer, and director) my mixtape got nominated for mixtape of the year at the HHH Magazine Unsigned Artist Awards, and I've been grinding in general. Its not easy though. I feel like I got a deal already and I'm not even going hard yet. There's a lot of things I can't really speak and "rant" on concerning the behind the scenes issues with the support in what I'm doing, but its not affecting me like it used to. I'm wiser now.
I am glad people are listening to the mixtape though. Cool with me. I put a lot into it and I'm very glad and appreciative its getting heard. Shoutout to all who support silently and out loud! I will always say thank you even when I reach the top!
On another note, Mala Reignz EP is going crazy! They going gaga for mala! I love the fact my people all prospering. Triboro bout to launch off into the majors, and another legendary era will be forefronted by that happening...
Like Jada said, I'm just happy to be here you know?

Its Been A While
I know. I know. For all the people that read the blog, I have not updated in a while. I been busy doing everything else. There's a lot going on. And since I handle most if not all my business as an artist myself its hard to stay on top of it all. I'm still grinding though. Dropped the mixtape and all that. Still workin on the support part, but we know that's hard for me...
Anyway I got shows booked up for the end of the month. Hopefully I can get more after that here. NYC aint workin for me right now on the show circuit. Its time to go ot. They are more appreciative of an artist who produces and writes all of his own music. My city, haaaaaaaa! Gotta have that co-sign smh.
I already got it mapped out how I'm gonna handle NYC, but the goal now is outside of NY. Outside of the US if I can. Now I'm seeing why the big dawgs don't help out here much. I guess I gotta go the same route. Nothing here gets supported unless a big name is behind it or there's a cosign involved. Hard workers get shunned over here for the most part.
If you didn't know, I dropped my first official solo mixtape and am proud that I got it on http://www.forbezdvd.com. I wasn't expecting that at all! I appreciate that greatly! Cali always shows me love like I'm from there. That's why they got an advanced copy. Shoutout to all the lifers at http://www.proof-of-life.net http://www.thatcrack.com has it up and it did numbers. Great. In these nyc blogs and websites though, its no love. Then they get mad and annoyed when u pushin ya joint to them virally. They really gonna be mad when I do what I do next then. I can't reveal that yet though.
I will reveal that I am done with a lot of things though. I'm not supporting anything that don't support me. I've shown too much love not to get shown almost any at all. I done put out quality music that has been silently swept under a rug, because this person or that person don't necessarily rock with it. So guess what? Don't expect to see me if I don't see you. Game over on that. Yall gonna be like where I'm at like how I was when I was wondering where yall were? Things changed on this side....
I'm done. If you don't like it, put a condom on your finger and go, you know the rest...
